Four of the semifinalists in this year’s Competition will participate in a masterclass in stagecraft led by award winning opera director Francisco Negrin. Afterwards there will be a conversation between Francisco Negrin and upcoming young Norwegian directors on the themes of modern opera direction, international trends, and the director's role and influence.

The masterclass takes place on Scene 2 and is open to the public. Tickets are free of charge but must be reserved

 

The Queen Sonja International Music Competition has lifted many talented people and promoted them in the international opera sphere. With Her Majesty Queen Sonja as patron and awarding the prizes, and offering vocal artistry at an extremely high level, the Queen Sonja International Music Competition has become a valued tradition for concert-goers and the TV audience alike. The competition attracts ever-increasing numbers of ambitious young singers, ensuring that the quality of the finalists remains at an extremely high level. The prizes available include not only cash prizes, but also engagements with Norwegian institutes of music on Norwegian stages, something that gives the singers unique experience in their further career.

After qualification rounds for 40 singers at the Norwegian Academy of Music, 12 progress to the semifinal on Scene 2 at the Oslo Opera House. Five are selected to perform at the Final Concert held in the Main House.
