Last Spring, A Swan, Ved Rondane
Luonnotar, tone poem for soprano and orchestra, Op. 70
Symphony No. 5, Op. 82
Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
With soprano soloist Lise Davidsen
Norway’s new international soprano star Lise Davidsen is a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra this season. At this concert we get to hear her sing Jean Sibelius’s tone poem Luonnotar (The Spirit of Nature), with text from the Finnish national epic The Kalevala, and a selection of Edvard Grieg’s songs. The concert starts with Wagner’s efficacious Faust Overture, where Faust’s longing and desperation are clearly expressed.
Sibelius’s fifth symphony culminates this performance, which is one of his most popular works.
The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is led by chief conductor Edward Gardner, who has extended his contract until 2021.
