Julie Gardette

«Sinuous and strong». That was how The New York Times described Julie Gardette's pas de deux Before After with her dance partner and husband François Rousseau during the Fall for Dance festival in 2006.

Gardette came to The Norwegian National Ballet in 2009 and  was appointed soloist in March 2017. She has danced in, among others, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Duato's Arcangelo and Scarlett's Firebird and Carmen. In spring 2013 she danced the demanding dual role of Odette and Odile in Swan Lake and in 2014 the role of Tatjana in Onegin.

Originally from France, Gardette made her debut with the Ballet de Marseille and has also worked with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, Ballet Zurich and the Finnish National Ballet. With these companies she has danced signature roles such as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and the title role in MacMillan's Manon. Scheherazade was created for her by Kenneth Greve while she was dancing in Helsinki, and in Zürich she was a success in Kylián's Bella Figura and Forsythe's Artifact.
