Svein Erik Sagbråten



Svein Erik Sagbråten has been a permanent soloist with the Norwegian National Opera since 1994. He has sung the roles of Laca in Jenufa, Mime i Das Rheingold and Siegfried, David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the Steerman in The Flying Dutchman, Tore Klakka in Olav Tryggvason, Pong in Turandot, the Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Narraboth in Salome, Monostatos in The Magic Flute, Flora in La traviata, Froh in Das Rheingold and Spoletta in Tosca.

In recent seasons, he has sung character roles such as the Dancing Master in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Valet and Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus, the Prince/the Valet/the Manservant in Lulu by Alban Berg, Melot in Tristan und Isolde and P. Thrilling/D. Drilling in Knut Vaage's new opera Khairos.

In 2011 and 2014, he sang the role as the feared landlord Benoît in La Bohème and gave Death an unforgettable face. Moreover, he did Andrés/Cochenille/Pitichinaccio/Franz in The Tales of Hoffmann, with a good sense for comical timing. Sagbråten is back in The Tales of Hoffmann this season. We will also see him in Madama Butterfly, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Carmen and Lohengrin
