Legendary pianist Grigory Sokolov is back
When Grigory Sokolov last visited the National Opera in 2017, he was greeted by a full house every evening – and played several extra performances. We are delighted to welcome this legend for the fourth year in a row.
“Everything Sokolov does is clear, while simultaneously nuanced and continually interpreted in new ways,” wrote Aftenposten’s reviewer, after Sokolov's concert at the Oslo Opera House in 2015. With his brilliant technique and unique personality, the pianist has his own special way of captivating an audience.
Grigory Sokolov won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow when he was only 16, and is now considered by many to be our greatest living piano player, following in the footsteps of great personages like Horowitz, Gould and Richter. After a busy career performing both as a concert pianist and as a soloist with major orchestras, he now concentrates on solo recitals. The 60 or so concerts he plays each year sell out wherever he performs.
Programme to be announced.
