The Piano Series: Tor Espen Aspaas
Solo recital featuring one of Norway's foremost pianists
Tor Espen Aspaas is one of the most outstanding pianists and music communicators of his generation in Norway. In 2001 he became Associate Professor in Piano Accompaniment at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and was promoted to Professor in 2006.
He gained his Soloist's Diploma from the Norwegian Academy of Music in 1996, and gave a critically acclaimed debut recital in Oslo the following year. He has received numerous awards and honours, and in October 2016 he was appointed a Knight of the First Class of the Order of St. Olav.
Aspaas has appeared as a soloist with several international orchestras, as well as all of Norway's professional orchestras. Conductors with whom he has worked in his solo career include Brüggen, Sinaysky, Plasson, Karpe, Eggen, Engeset, Gupta and Engegård. In conjunction with the latter, in 2011 he gave the premiere performance of Olav Anton Thommessen's Third Piano Concerto with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to recitals and worldwide concert tours he is regularly invited to Norwegian and international festivals and concert series. His discography includes many CDs of works by composers such as Beethoven, Schoenberg, Berg and Webern, as well as the complete piano works by Paul Dukas. He was also one of the initiators and artistic directors of the chamber music festival Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden, in Røros, Norway from 1999 to 2008 and in 2014.
The Piano Series features the elite amongst Norwegian pianists, and they will be playing pieces from the vast piano repertoire in the Second House.
